For the past 3 years, we have organized a community Farmer's Market. Our market features a little bit of everything including: local Pennsylvania farmers, a variety of food, crafts, and unique products. Be sure to check our calendar in the late Spring for updates. If you are interested in reserving a space for the 2019 season please contact us!
One of our long-standing events has been our bi-annual Community Clean-up. In the Fall, we partner with PittServes, a group of eager student volunteers from the University of Pittsburgh to spruce up the 31st Ward. Covering as much area as possible with our student and community volunteers, we aim to clean up the side of roads, parks, and greenways. The Spring Clean-up is community member driven and is held around Earth Day each year. The average collection of refuse and debris is over 50 bags of trash, tires, tvs, couches and other oddities. If you are interested in volunteering or know a group of volunteers, we can document volunteer hours for you! Be sure to check our calendar for the next clean-up date and please contact us for more information.
Since its inception, the Group has made it priority to be involved in Veteran’s Affairs in the Community. Each year we are integral participants in the Memorial Day Parade and have presented a wreath on behalf of the community in honor of the Veterans, both living and deceased. In addition, we have devoted a portion of our annual budget and any donations to the installation and maintenance of the flags that go up around the community for Memorial Day and the 4th of July. The flags and their hardware are graciously cared for and maintained by Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. of Hays.
2018 marks the 3rd year for our Trolley Ride with Santa. A Trolley is chartered and we take a carol filled tour of the area to see the lights and spend some much coveted time with the talented Mr. And Mrs. Clause. While you wait to board enjoy family treats and crafts courtesy of our local elves and businesses. Enjoy homemade cookie decorating, amazing crafts thought up by some of Santa’s favorites, treats and temporary tattoos (many thanks to Neverending Ink Tattoos).
Other events have included a Community Flea Market, gatherings honoring local Public Servants, Election Day Hoagies and Community Dinners. We strive to partner with local officials and businesses to advance the interests of the 31st Ward Community.
