For the past 2 years, the Group has organized a community Farmer's Market. In its inaugural year, the Farmer’s Market was held at the Mifflin Elementary Field. This past season, we utilized the lot of Mifflin Road just down from the Sunoco Station. This lot is former site of the Four Oaks Trailer Park and Automated Laundromat. Our market features a little bit of everything including: local Pennsylvania farmers, food trucks, and vendors selling a variety of food, crafts, and unique products. Be sure to check our calendar for the 2018 dates and a list of scheduled vendors! If you know someone that may be interested in joining our team of vendors, please contact us!
One of our long-standing events has been our bi-annual Community Clean-up. In the Fall, we partner with PittServes, a group of eager student volunteers from the University of Pittsburgh to spruce up the 31st Ward. Covering as much area as possible with our student and community volunteers, we aim to clean up the side of roads, parks, and greenways. The Spring Clean-up has a more community member focused and is held around Earth Day each year. The average collection of refuse and debris is over 50 bags of trash, tires, tvs, couches and other oddities. If you are interested in volunteering or know a group of volunteers, we can document volunteer hours for you! Be sure to check our calendar for the next clean-up date and please contact us for more information.
Since its inception, the Group has made it priority to be involved in Veteran’s Affairs in the Community. Each year we are integral participants in the Memorial Day Parade and have presented a wreath on behalf of the community in honor of the Veterans, both living and deceased. In addition, we have devoted a portion of our annual budget and any donations to the installation and maintenance of the flags that go up around the community for Memorial Day and the 4th of July. The flags and their hardware are graciously cared for and maintained by Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. of Hays.
2017 marks the 2nd year for our Family Trolley Ride with Santa and the Mrs. A Molly's Trolley is chartered and we take a carol filled tour around the neighborhood to see the lights and spend some much coveted time with the very talented Mr. And Mrs. Clause. No need to fret, there are plenty of family friendly treats and crafts with the help of our very own neighborhood elves and local businesses (Buttermilk Hollow Shop n Save). This year we enjoyed homemade cookie decorating (courtesy of Dee’s Delights of Munhall), amazing crafts thought up by some of Santa’s favorites (the Schaming and Schneider families), and treats and temporary tattoos (many thanks to Neverending Ink Tattoos). This year's event was held at the Lincoln Place Presbyterian Church on Muldowney Ave with more than 70 children and their families enjoying the festivities.
Other events have included a Community Flea Market, gatherings honoring local public servants, Election Day Hoagies and Community Dinners. We strive to partner with local officials and businesses to advance the interests of the 31st Ward Community.
